Collett’s life sounds more like a boy’s own adventure story than a wine-maker. His career has been sprinkled with such crazy adventures, that even Scott’s surprised he survived them.
Ace World War II fighter pilot Doug Collett told son Scott to “never let a chance go by”. After 30 years in the wine industry he’s lived that advice to the letter, enjoying one of the most colourful and eclectic existences of any Aussie oenologist. He raced a Porsche, flew aerobatic planes and still water skis in his fifties. While Woodstock is his passion, he has fingers in the pies of other wine companies including Rockford, Heartland and Zonte’s Footstep. He half owns a cruise ship company which offers themed party cruises such as “Cruisin’ Country” and “Rock the Boat”. To balance the yin with the yang he has his own restaurant where he can entertain friends under towering, century old gum trees surrounded by a native fauna sanctuary, home to more than 25 native Australian animals. His motto: “You only have one crack at life, go hard!”
